A Maui Photographer's Blog

A year ago now, I’ve had the great joy of seeing my good friend Emma become a mommy. These photos are from the beginning of her journey. I remember when she first told me that she was expecting. I remember sharing in the excitement and stresses that are inherent in every pregnancy. And I remember this beautiful summer day at Filoli. We walked the gardens, enjoying the moments but with a look towards the future– toward meeting the little life she was then carrying. Today, her sweet little boy turns one!

Emma is a wonderful writer. She helps businesses grow by creating quality, insightful content for them. Here’s something she wrote about her pregnancy experience. “Pregnancy is like a garden. Even though the flowers look pristine, you can usually see blemishes if you get close enough. There’s a lot of work that goes into making things bloom. There’s a reason gardeners get soil under their fingernails. Pregnancy has been a privilege and also a challenge. As I near the end, I can see the callouses. But I also see all the wonderful blooms. Like, look what my body is doing! It is strong and GROWING/SHELTERING/CREATING life. As I look through these photos that my marvelous friend took for me, I’m truly overjoyed that I’ve gotten to live this season of my life.”
